Clearing a fault code is the core job in DTC Remover. The steps below take a file from open to saved. For a tour of the window itself, see Overview of the software interface.
Step by step
In Select ECU, choose the control unit your file belongs to.
Open the file in Source with the browse button. If you do not know which codes are present, press Scan to read them (see Scanning a file for fault codes).
Enter the codes to act on in OBD Code and/or MAN Code. You can type them, paste them, or load them from presets.
Choose how to treat them with the Disable / Remove option (explained below).
Optionally tick Checksum so the file checksum is recalculated after the change.
Press DTC OFF to apply. A Results window summarises what happened.
Press Save to write the cleared file.
Figure 1
Disable or Remove
Two modes decide how a fault is treated:
Disable — the fault is switched off in the file, while its definition is left in place.
Remove — the fault is removed.
The mode selected by default can be set in Settings.
The Results window
After DTC OFF, a Results window reports three figures:
Sum of OBD & MAN faults found — how many matching faults were located in the file.
Faults that required action — how many were actually disabled or removed.
Faults that do not require action — faults already disabled by the manufacturer, or in a file that has already been modified.

The same summary is written to the status bar and the log. Untick Show this dialog again if you would rather not see the window every time (you can re-enable it from Settings).
Note— A count under Faults that do not require action is normal: it simply means those codes were already off, so there was nothing to change.
