Preferences holds Tuning Editor’s settings, grouped into tabs. Open it from Settings › Preferences…. This page covers the General and Online Features tabs and the Defaults tab in full.

General
Language — English or Italian; a change takes effect on the next launch.
Theme — System default, Light or Dark.
Icon set — Light or Dark icons.
Value precision — how many decimal places map values are shown with: None (full precision), Automatic (6 decimals), or a fixed number.
Software Updates — check for updates automatically on startup, play a sound when one is available, and a Check now button (see Updates).
Online Features
The sign-in used by the online tools (such as AutoTune and the online file search): your Username or email, your Password (with a Show toggle), and Remember me on this device.
The Defaults tab
The Defaults tab sets the starting behaviour for the editors and other features. It is laid out as a category list on the left that switches a page of options on the right; the categories are below.

Map Editor
Open new map editors in raw mode.
Remember layout for a number of maps (or Disabled), with a button to clear remembered map layouts.
Window size on open — Auto-fit to content or a Fixed width × height in pixels.
Window position on open — Cascade, Centered, Top-left or Remember last.
Move toolbar to the side for tall windows.
Map List
Default view mode — Smart (decide from folders), Flat or Tree.
Alternating row colors (in flat mode).
A2L Import
Default segment mode — one section per segment, or a single flat section.
Selection cache size (number of entries), with a button to clear the A2L selection cache. See Importing an A2L.
2D Plot
Show toolbar by default.
Show status bar by default.
Show a vertical crosshair through the active point.
General
Recent collections cap — how many recent collections to remember.
Confirm before deleting a map.
Tab shown on open — Maps, Collection, or Remember last.
Sealed Files
Recovery strength — the redundancy percentage, which recovers roughly that share of damage to a sealed file.
Recovery file — Embedded only, or Embedded plus a separate .rec file.
